It's most likely someone inflexible mind that is preventing them from trying the practice and seeing benefits to the body with flexibility improving.

Myth 2: Yoga is Just Stretching

Debunked: While yoga involves stretching, it's not just that. It's a holistic practice that combines physical movement, breathwork, meditation, and mindfulness. It also builds strength, balance, and improves overall well-being. The practice encourages the mind to connect to the body and body to the mind, through breath.
