I’m a recovering perfectionist, and an aspiring “good enoughist”
Brené Brown
Striving to be a perfectionist all the time is difficult and so much work! I now resonate with the above quote from the book on “The Gifts of imperfection‘s” by Brené.
That’s one thing getting older has taught me. Is that sometimes my efforts are just good enough.
The more and more I strive to be perfect the harder it is to actually attain. Our definition of perfect becomes impossible. There’s projects I had started and never shared with anyone as I didn’t think they were perfect. So to me they were incomplete and not ready for anyone to see. So no one saw them. It’s not until I let go of the perfect state the project should be in and I shared and showed what I had done. Most times people would give feedback and say how great it was and I knew then, wow my standards of myself and my work/projects etc. is harsh and I had a way higher bar then others.
There is that saying we are our worst critics ...and it’s so true. No matter how much we strive for perfect, the definition of perfect changes.
Especially when we try to be people pleasing. All we are here to do is please ourselves and be happy.
Stand in our pose both feet firmly grounded like in the yoga posture shown below in the photo - Tadasana/ Mountain pose because whatever we strive to achieve and do is good enough. As long as the effort is there, our good enough is prefect as it’s showing up in the world.
Our efforts are all that matters...that we show up again and again. And try.
STAND TALL. Ground ourselves. And try!
BE OKAY WITH good enough. Let go of perfectionism, because once we do let go, then we put ourselves out there and share our gifts with the world. Like Brené Brown would say our imperfections make us feel vulnerable, maybe even a little scared of judgment from others or ridiculed, but this shouldn’t stop us as our gifts should be shared. To others our imperfections are like gifts that in the end are perfect.
Stand up and keep trying. Just show up. Because good enough, is good enough. All that matters is that we show up for ourselves and others and share our gifts with the world.
Namaste,
Marzena
